Biotin-PEG-hydrazide (Biotin-PEG-HZ) is a chemical compound containing a polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer, and a hydrazide functional group. Biotin, also known as vitamin B7, is a small molecule with a high affinity for avidin and streptavidin, two proteins commonly used in molecular biology and biotechnology. Biotin can form strong and specific non-covalent interactions with these proteins. The hydrazide group is a reactive moiety that can form covalent bonds with carbonyl groups (aldehydes and ketones). Biotin-PEG-Hydrazide is able to conjugate with molecules that have aldehyde or ketone groups, which are introduced through various chemical reactions or modifications.
