Description

Biotin-PEG1-azide refers to a compound composed of three main parts: biotin, a PEG spacer (with a length of 1 ethylene glycol unit), and an azide functional group. Biotin is a small molecule also known as vitamin H or B7. It has a high affinity for avidin and streptavidin, making it widely used in various bioconjugation applications. Biotin can be attached to molecules of interest and subsequently recognized by avidin or streptavidin for immobilization, purification, or detection purposes. PEG spacers are often used in bioconjugation to increase solubility, reduce steric hindrance, and improve flexibility. The azide functional group (N3) is widely used in click chemistry reactions, particularly the copper-catalyzed azide-alkyne cycloaddition (CuAAC) reaction. Azides can selectively react with alkynes in the presence of a copper catalyst to form stable triazole linkages.
