Description

(+)-Biotin-(PEO)4-NHS-propionate combines biotin, a polyethylene glycol (PEG) spacer, an NHS (N-hydroxysuccinimide) ester, and a propionate group. The propionate group can influence the reactivity and steric properties of the NHS ester, although in many cases the exact role of the propionate group is related to optimizing the reactivity or stability of the compound. The compound can be used to investigate protein-protein interactions. The biotin tag enables detection and quantification of biotinylated proteins, while the NHS ester allows for site-specific conjugation to proteins containing primary amines.
