Biotinyl-ACTH (1-39) (human) is a biotinylated form of the adrenocorticotropic hormone (ACTH), which consists of the first 39 amino acids of the proopiomelanocortin (POMC) precursor. ACTH is a crucial peptide hormone produced by the anterior pituitary gland that stimulates the production and release of cortisol from the adrenal cortex. Biotinyl-ACTH (1-39) is used to study the regulation of cortisol production and release from the adrenal glands, providing insights into adrenal function and disorders such as Addison’s disease and Cushing’s syndrome. It can also be used in binding assays to study the interaction between ACTH and its receptor, melanocortin 2 receptor (MC2R), which is critical for understanding receptor activation and signal transduction.
