The biotin component binds to streptavidin or avidin-conjugated tags, while the photoreactive group covalently attaches to proteins or other biomolecules under UV or visible light. In addition, the photoreactive group cross-links proteins or protein complexes upon light activation, allowing researchers to study protein-protein interactions and map out complex protein networks.
