Description

Bis-BCN is part of the bicyclo[6.1.0]nonyne family of compounds. It is specifically designed to participate in bioorthogonal click reactions, particularly the strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC) reaction. This reaction does not require a copper catalyst, which is advantageous for biological applications where copper ions can be cytotoxic. Bis-BCN can be employed to functionalize nanoparticles or drug carriers with targeting ligands or therapeutic agents. This facilitates targeted drug delivery to specific cells or tissues expressing azide-tagged receptors or biomarkers. In addition, the bioorthogonal nature of SPAAC reactions allows Bis-BCN to be used in the development of click chemistry-based therapeutics. This includes conjugating therapeutic agents to targeting ligands or antibodies for precision medicine applications.
