Bromo-PEG2-methyl ester can be used to mask the carboxylic acid functionality of drugs, enhancing their stability or altering their pharmacokinetic properties. Upon administration, enzymatic or chemical cleavage of the ester group releases the active drug. The methyl ester group can act as a protecting group for carboxylic acids.
