Description

Cholesterol-PEG-NHS (CLS-PEG-NHS, CLS-PEG-SC) reacts with amine to form stable amide bond for bioconjugation. Cholesterol is a cell membrane constituent which serves a unique function of modulating membrane fluidity, elasticity, and permeability. It fills in the gaps created by packing of other lipid species when proteins are embedded in the membrane. PEGylated cholesterol as an amphiphilic lipid derivative can be used to prepare liposome and other micelles as drug delivery systems. The NHS group is to conjugate amine-containing moieties including protein, antibody and dyes on the micelle or liposome surface.
