Cucurbit[8]uril (CB[8]) hydrate has a rigid, barrel-shaped structure with hydrophobic cavities. In its hydrated form, water molecules may occupy some of these cavities, influencing the host-guest chemistry. CB[8] can selectively encapsulate guest molecules of appropriate size and shape within its cavity through non-covalent interactions.
