Description

Cy3-Azide-DNA is a conjugate that combines a DNA oligonucleotide with a Cy3 fluorescent dye through an azide functional group. Cy3 is a cyanine dye that emits in the green to orange spectrum, with an excitation maximum around 550 nm and an emission maximum around 570 nm. It is widely used in fluorescence microscopy, flow cytometry, and other fluorescence-based techniques due to its bright fluorescence and relatively high photostability. The azide group (-N₃) is a reactive chemical moiety that is often employed in bioorthogonal chemistry, particularly in click reactions. This group allows for highly selective and efficient conjugation with alkyne-functionalized molecules, such as through the copper-catalyzed alkyne-azide cycloaddition (CuAAC) or the strain-promoted alkyne-azide cycloaddition (SPAAC). Cy3-Azide-DNA is commonly used in fluorescent in situ hybridization (FISH) to detect and localize specific DNA sequences within chromosomes or tissues. The Cy3 dye provides a fluorescent signal that can be visualized under a fluorescence microscope, allowing for the detection of specific genetic sequences or abnormalities.
