DARPins (Designed Ankyrin Repeat Proteins) are a class of synthetic proteins designed using the ankyrin repeat motif. DARPins are created by combining different ankyrin repeats in a modular fashion. The binding specificity of DARPins is achieved by modifying the loops between the repeats. This design approach allows for high-affinity binding to a wide range of target molecules, including proteins, peptides, and small molecules. ARPins can be employed in immunoassays to detect and quantify specific proteins or other biomolecules in complex samples. Their specificity and stability enhance the sensitivity and accuracy of these assays. They are also being explored as therapeutic agents for targeted therapy.
