DBCO (dibenzocycolctyne)-PEG-Thiol (DBCO-PEG-SH) is a versatile compound with applications in bioconjugation, surface modification, and drug delivery. Thiol groups are highly reactive and are capable of forming strong covalent bonds with other thiol groups, certain metals, and specific functional groups. DBCO is a strained alkyne group that is highly reactive with azide groups through a copper-free click chemistry reaction known as strain-promoted azide-alkyne cycloaddition (SPAAC). The reaction is bioorthogonal, meaning it can occur in biological environments without interfering with native biomolecules.
