Description

DBCO-PEG2-Maleimide consists of a DBCO (dibenzocyclooctyne) moiety linked to a maleimide functional group via a PEG (polyethylene glycol) spacer that is two units in length. The DBCO group in DBCO-PEG2-Maleimide is utilized for its ability to undergo copper-free click chemistry with azide-functionalized molecules, allowing for specific and bioorthogonal conjugation reactions. Maleimide, on the other hand, is reactive towards thiol groups, specifically cysteine residues in proteins, forming stable thioether bonds through a Michael addition reaction. The PEG linker in DBCO-PEG2-Maleimide provides flexibility and water solubility, which can be advantageous for conjugation reactions in biological systems.
