Description

Desthiobiotin-PEG11-Azide can be utilized in biosensor platforms for detecting biotinylated targets. Its specific binding to streptavidin or avidin allows for sensitive detection in diagnostic assays or environmental monitoring. Desthiobiotin is a biotin derivative that lacks the sulfur atom in its thiophene ring compared to biotin. It retains the ability to bind strongly to avidin or streptavidin proteins, although typically with lower affinity than biotin. This reversible binding property can be advantageous in certain applications where biotin needs to be released under specific conditions. The azide functional group (-N₃) is widely used in bioorthogonal chemistry, specifically in click chemistry reactions. Azides can react with alkyne-functionalized molecules via copper-catalyzed or copper-free (strain-promoted) click chemistry, forming stable triazole linkages.
