Description

Dex-g-ss-CPT (Dextran-g-ss-Camptothecin) is a polymer-drug conjugate used primarily in the field of drug delivery and cancer therapy. It combines dextran, a polysaccharide, with camptothecin (CPT), a potent anticancer drug. The linkage between dextran and camptothecin is through a disulfide bond (ss), which is designed to provide controlled release of the drug in response to specific conditions in the body, particularly in the reducing environment of the tumor. Dextran is a branched polysaccharide made up of glucose units linked primarily by α-1,6-glycosidic bonds, with some α-1,3-linkages. It is biocompatible and used to modify various drugs and molecules to improve their pharmacokinetics and biodistribution. CPT is a naturally occurring alkaloid with potent antitumor activity. It functions as a topoisomerase I inhibitor, preventing DNA replication and leading to cell death.
