Description

Dextran sulfate for cell media (DS5) is a sulfated derivative of dextran, a complex branched polysaccharide composed of glucose units linked together. Dextran sulfate is often used as an anticoagulant in blood collection tubes and as an additive to prevent blood clotting during experimental procedures. Its ability to bind calcium ions and interfere with blood coagulation makes it useful in clinical and research settings. In addition, it has been shown to inhibit the replication of certain viruses by interfering with viral attachment and entry into host cells. It is used in virology research, virus isolation, and the development of antiviral therapies.
