DOTAP:DOPC (50:50) Liposomes are a type of lipid-based nanoparticle composed of a mixture of 1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane (DOTAP) and dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC) lipids. These liposomes are widely used in biomedical and pharmaceutical research, particularly in drug delivery and gene transfection applications. DOTAP is a cationic lipid with a quaternary ammonium head group. It is positively charged at physiological pH, which facilitates interactions with negatively charged molecules such as nucleic acids (DNA or RNA). This property makes DOTAP-containing liposomes effective for delivering nucleic acids into cells through a process known as lipofection.
