Description

DOX-hyd-PEAEP-g-PDMAEMA is a polymeric drug delivery system designed to improve the delivery of doxorubicin (DOX) for cancer treatment. Doxorubicin is a chemotherapy drug that works by intercalating DNA and inhibiting topoisomerase II, preventing cancer cell replication. It is linked to the polymer via a hydrazone bond, a pH-sensitive linkage that degrades in the acidic environment of tumors, ensuring targeted drug release. PEAEP is a block copolymer with hydrophilic and bioactive properties. The ethylene glycol component provides solubility and biocompatibility, while the 2-aminoethylphosphate (AEP) portion contains phosphate groups that may enhance interactions with biological tissues and improve drug delivery. PDMAEMA is a cationic polymer that is pH-responsive. At physiological pH, it is partially protonated, and at lower pH levels (such as in tumors), it becomes fully protonated, which enhances its positive charge. This property helps improve cellular uptake and facilitates the release of the drug in acidic environments.
