1,2-Distearoyl-sn-Glycero-3-Phosphoethanolamine (DSPE)-polyethylene glycol-amine (DSPE-PEG-Amine, DSPE-PEG-NH2) can be used in the formulation of lipoplexes or lipid nanoparticles for gene delivery. The PEGylation helps in improving the stability and circulation of the delivery system, while the amine group facilitates the binding and release of plasmid DNA. Besides, the amine group can be used to conjugate fluorescent dyes or probes for optical imaging applications. This facilitates tracking and visualization of cells or tissues in fluorescence microscopy.
