(E)-Cefetamet Pivoxil ((6R,7R)-7-[[(2E)-2-(2-Amino-4-thiazolyl)-2-(methoxyimino)acetyl]amino]-3-methyl-8-oxo-5-thia-1-azabicyclo[4.2.0]oct-2-ene-2-carboxylic Acid (2,2-Dimethyl-1-oxopropoxy)methyl Ester Hydrochloride) s a prodrug form of cefetamet, a cephalosporin antibiotic. Prodrugs are chemically modified drugs that become active only after metabolic conversion within the body. (E)-Cefetamet Pivoxil is used to treat bacterial infections. As a cephalosporin, it targets a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria by inhibiting cell wall synthesis. In addition, the prodrug form (E)-Cefetamet Pivoxil is designed to improve oral bioavailability compared to cefetamet alone. The ester is hydrolyzed in the body to release the active cefetamet.
