Electrospun/Electrosprayed Polyvinylidene Fluoride+Zinc Oxide Nanofiber Mats can be used as filtration membranes for water purification. The combined effects of filtration and photocatalysis can efficiently remove organic contaminants, bacteria, and viruses from water, making these mats suitable for point-of-use water treatment systems, portable water filters, and wastewater treatment plants. Additionally, ZnO nanoparticles exhibit antibacterial properties due to their ability to generate reactive oxygen species (ROS) under UV light. Incorporating ZnO nanoparticles into PVDF nanofiber mats can create antibacterial materials suitable for applications in wound dressings, biomedical implants, food packaging, and water treatment, where prevention of bacterial growth is crucial.
