endo-BCN-pentanoic acid, also known as endo-bicyclo[6.1.0]non-4-yn-9-ylmethanepentanoic acid, is a compound that combines an endo-bicyclo[6.1.0]non-4-yn-9-ylmethanol (BCN) group with a pentanoic acid moiety. By functionalizing cell surface molecules with endo-BCN-pentanoic acid, researchers can introduce bioorthogonal handles onto the cell membrane. These handles can then be selectively labeled with azide-functionalized molecules, enabling the study of cell-cell interactions, receptor trafficking, or cell signaling events. Endo-BCN-pentanoic acid can also participate in SPAAC reactions with azide-functionalized molecules, such as fluorescent dyes, biotin, or polymers. These click chemistry reactions proceed rapidly under physiological conditions without the need for toxic catalysts, making them suitable for various chemical biology and biomedical applications.
