Fmoc-Lys(Mtt)-Wang resin (N-alpha-Fmoc-N-epsilon-(4-methyltrityl)-L-lysine-Wang resin) is predominantly used in solid-phase peptide synthesis (SPPS). The combination of Fmoc and Mtt protection strategies allows for efficient and precise assembly of peptides that contain lysine. Lysine is a basic amino acid with an amino group on its side chain. The epsilon position of this amino group is protected with a methyltrityl (Mtt) group, which prevents premature reactions during the peptide synthesis. The Mtt group is a protecting group that can be selectively removed under mild acidic conditions (usually with trifluoroacetic acid).
