Description

GalNAz (N-azidoacetylgalactosamine tetraacylated) is a modified form of N-acetylgalactosamine (GalNAc), where the N-acetyl group is replaced with an azido group and the molecule is tetraacylated. GalNAz can be incorporated into glycoproteins or glycolipids in place of native GalNAc. The azide group allows for subsequent labeling using click chemistry with various fluorescent or biotinylated probes. This technique helps map glycosylation patterns in cells and tissues, providing insights into glycan structures and their biological roles. Moreover, GalNAz can be used to study changes in glycosylation patterns associated with cancer. The azide functionality allows for the development of diagnostic assays and imaging techniques targeting tumor-associated glycans.
