Description

Gimatecan is a synthetic derivative of camptothecin, a natural compound found in the Chinese tree Camptotheca acuminata. Like other camptothecin derivatives, gimatecan is a topoisomerase I inhibitor, which means it interferes with the action of an enzyme called topoisomerase I. This interference prevents the proper unwinding of DNA during replication, ultimately leading to cell death, particularly in cancer cells.
