Cholic acid is a natural bile acid that is often used as a building block in the synthesis of amphiphilic molecules. It has a hydrophobic region and a hydrophilic region, making it suitable for the design of amphiphilic compounds with self-assembling properties. Maleimide is a reactive group that selectively reacts with thiol groups through a thio-Michael addition reaction.
