Maleimide-PEG-NHS (MAL-PEG-NHS, MAL-PEG-SC, Maleimide-PEG-Succinimidyl NHS ester) is a heterogeneous bifunctional modifier. It is mostly used in targeted drug research and has a wide range of applications in the cross-linking of protein carriers and ligands. The maleimide functional group selectively reacts with thiol (-SH) groups, forming stable thioether bonds. In MAL-PEG-NHS, the maleimide group is used to react with thiol-containing molecules. The NHS ester group is a reactive moiety that reacts specifically with primary amines (-NH2) to form stable amide bonds.
