meso-Tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphine or 4,4′,4”,4”’-(21H,23H-porphine-5,10,15,20-tetrayl)tetrakis-Benzoicacid or H2TCPP consists of a porphyrin core with four 4-carboxyphenyl groups attached at the meso positions. Porphyrin derivatives are widely studied for their application in PDT, a cancer treatment modality. Upon irradiation with light of specific wavelengths, porphyrins can generate cytotoxic reactive oxygen species, selectively killing cancer cells. The presence of carboxyphenyl groups in meso-Tetra(4-carboxyphenyl)porphine offers opportunities for targeted delivery and enhanced cellular uptake.
