Description

MH-N3 (Magnesium hydrate-Azide) refers to magnesium hydrate (Mg(OH)₂) that has been chemically modified with azide groups (-N3). Magnesium hydrate has inherent antibacterial and antifungal properties due to its alkaline nature, which can disrupt the cell walls of microbes. MH-N3 can be further functionalized with additional antimicrobial agents, such as silver nanoparticles or quaternary ammonium compounds, using click chemistry, creating materials with enhanced antimicrobial activity. These materials can be used in medical devices, wound dressings, or coatings for surfaces that require long-lasting antimicrobial protection. Besides, MH-N3 can be incorporated into polymer matrices to create flame-retardant composites. The magnesium hydrate acts as a flame retardant by releasing water when heated, which cools the material and dilutes combustible gases. The azide groups on MH-N3 can be used to covalently bond with polymer chains via click chemistry, enhancing the dispersion of the filler within the polymer matrix and improving the mechanical and thermal properties of the composite.
