mPEG-Biotin (mPEG-Bio, Methoxy PEG Biotin, Methoxypoly(ethylene glycol) Biotin) can be used to stabilize proteins in solution by preventing aggregation and degradation. The PEG moiety reduces protein-protein interactions while the biotin tag allows for specific labeling and tracking. In cell biology, mPEG-Biotin can aid in the isolation and enrichment of specific cell populations. By biotinylating cell surface markers, cells can be selectively bound to streptavidin-coated magnetic beads or columns, allowing for their separation from a mixed population.
