Description

mPEG-Hyd-DOX (Methoxypolyethylene glycol-hydrazone bond-doxorubicin) is a conjugate of methoxy polyethylene glycol (mPEG) and doxorubicin (DOX, linked via a hydrazone bond). Doxorubicin is an anthracycline antibiotic with a complex structure, known for its powerful anticancer activity. It intercalates with DNA and inhibits topoisomerase II, leading to cell death. The use of mPEG can increase the circulation time of the drug in the bloodstream, enhancing its accumulation in tumor tissues due to the enhanced permeability and retention (EPR) effect. This results in more effective targeting of cancer cells. The hydrazone bond is typically stable under physiological conditions but can be hydrolyzed under certain conditions, allowing for controlled drug release.
