Description

N3-Mannose (Azide-Mannose) is a mannose sugar molecule modified with an azide functional group. Mannose is a monosaccharide that is part of the hexose class of sugars, closely related to glucose. The azide modification enables N3-Mannose to be used for metabolic labeling, which involves incorporating the azide-modified sugar into glycans (carbohydrate structures) of glycoproteins and glycolipids in living cells. N3-Mannose can be metabolically incorporated into glycoproteins and glycolipids in mammalian cells. After the cells take up N3-Mannose, it is processed by the cell’s glycosylation machinery, incorporating the azide-modified mannose into various glycans. This allows researchers to tag and visualize glycoproteins and glycolipids with high specificity using subsequent click chemistry reactions.
