Oleic Acid-Coated Fe3O4 Nanoparticles (Oleic Acid-Coated Magnetite Nanoparticles, Fe3O4@OA, OA Coated Fe3O4 Nanoparticles) can be used in environmental applications, such as the removal of contaminants from water. The magnetic properties enable easy recovery of the nanoparticles after adsorption processes. In addition, the magnetic properties of Fe3O4 nanoparticles can be exploited for hyperthermia treatment, where targeted heating is induced by applying an external magnetic field. This is used in cancer therapy to selectively destroy cancer cells.
