PEO-Alkyne (PEO-Alk) stands for Polyethylene Oxide (PEO) Functionalized with an Alkyne Group. PEO, also known as polyethylene glycol (PEG) when in its simplest form, consists of repeating ethylene oxide units (-O-CH2-CH2-) in a polymer chain. It is known for its hydrophilicity and biocompatibility. PEO-Alkyne is used to label or tag biomolecules through click chemistry. The alkyne group reacts with azide-functionalized molecules to form stable triazole linkages, allowing for the attachment of fluorescent dyes, proteins, or other labels. It can also be used to modify the surfaces of medical devices. The alkyne group enables the attachment of bioactive molecules or coatings that enhance the performance and biocompatibility of devices such as implants, catheters, and sensors.
