Description

PEO(-N3)-b-PNIPAM is a block copolymer consisting of a poly(ethylene oxide) (PEO) block with azide functional groups and a poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) block. The PEO block is a hydrophilic polymer that provides solubility in aqueous solutions. PNIPAM is a thermoresponsive polymer that exhibits a lower critical solution temperature (LCST). Below this temperature, PNIPAM is hydrophilic and soluble in water, while above the LCST, it becomes hydrophobic and precipitates out of solution. The PNIPAM block can be used to design temperature-responsive drug delivery systems. At temperatures below the LCST, the copolymer is hydrophilic, allowing for drug solubility and release. Above the LCST, PNIPAM becomes hydrophobic, leading to the encapsulation or retention of drugs. In addition, the thermoresponsive nature of PNIPAM allows for the development of temperature sensors. The copolymer can be used to create sensor materials that change their physical properties in response to temperature, providing a basis for temperature sensing applications.
