Description

Plain Cationic Liposome containing DDAB refers to a liposome formulation where DDAB (dimethyldioctadecylammonium bromide) is the cationic lipid used to create the liposome. The positively charged ammonium headgroup of DDAB interacts strongly with negatively charged components, such as phospholipids in cell membranes, nucleic acids, and proteins, enabling the liposomes to readily fuse with or be taken up by cells. This ability is crucial for facilitating the delivery of genes, drugs, or other therapeutic molecules into cells. When DDAB is used in liposome formulations, it typically forms a bilayer structure where the hydrophobic tails of the DDAB molecules face inward, and the positively charged headgroups face outward toward the aqueous environment. This structure allows the liposome to encapsulate water-soluble substances and protect them from degradation, while the cationic surface enhances the liposome’s interaction with cell membranes.
