Plain Cationic Liposome containing DOTMA is invaluable in gene therapy, drug delivery, vaccine development, and cellular imaging due to its ability to efficiently encapsulate and deliver genetic material, drugs, and vaccines, combined with its versatility in targeting specific cells and tissues. DOTMA (1,2-dioleoyl-3-trimethylammonium-propane) is a cationic lipid that consists of a positively charged quaternary ammonium headgroup attached to two oleyl chains (C18:1) at the sn-1 and sn-2 positions of the lipid molecule. The cationic charge of DOTMA enables it to bind to negatively charged nucleic acids (DNA/RNA) through electrostatic interactions, forming a lipoplex. This formulation facilitates the delivery of genetic material or drugs into cells, particularly for gene therapy, vaccine development, and drug delivery systems.
