Poly(methyl methacrylate), atactic (different tacticity ratio) is a transparent thermoplastic polymer synthesized from methyl methacrylate monomers. Typically, PMMA is characterized by its tacticity, which refers to the arrangement of pendant groups along the polymer chain. In atactic PMMA, the methyl groups (-CH3) attached to the polymer backbone are randomly oriented, resulting in a lack of a specific stereochemical order. PMMA with a small fraction of syndiotactic or isotactic units exhibits improved mechanical properties, such as higher impact strength or stiffness, making it suitable as an impact modifier in polymer blends or composites.
