Description

Pyrimethamine Biotin is a conjugate combining pyrimethamine, an antimalarial and antiparasitic drug, with biotin, a molecule that binds with high affinity to streptavidin and avidin. A medication primarily used to treat protozoal infections like malaria and toxoplasmosis. It works by inhibiting the enzyme dihydrofolate reductase (DHFR), thereby blocking the synthesis of tetrahydrofolic acid, which is necessary for the synthesis of nucleic acids and proteins. The conjugate can be used to purify pyrimethamine-binding proteins or receptors. Streptavidin- or avidin-coated beads can capture the biotinylated drug, and proteins interacting with pyrimethamine can be isolated and studied.
