Rhodamine-tetrazine (Rhod-Tz) combines the bright fluorescence of rhodamine with the reactivity of tetrazine, making it a powerful tool for selective labeling and imaging of biomolecules in live cells and tissues. Rhodamine is a xanthene dye known for its high fluorescence intensity, photostability, and compatibility with biological systems. It emits in the visible spectrum, typically around 550-600 nm, making it ideal for fluorescence microscopy. The tetrazine group enables the selective reaction with TCO or strained alkene groups on biomolecules. This reaction is rapid and bioorthogonal, meaning it does not interfere with natural biological processes, allowing for precise labeling in vivo or in vitro.
