Description

SA-tetrazine (SA-Tz) combines a carbonic anhydrase inhibitor with a tetrazine moiety. Carbonic anhydrase (CA) is an enzyme that catalyzes the reversible hydration of carbon dioxide, playing a crucial role in pH regulation, respiration, and CO2 transport. Inhibitors of carbonic anhydrase are used in various therapeutic areas, including glaucoma, epilepsy, and cancer. In cancers where carbonic anhydrase, particularly the CA IX isoform, is overexpressed, a carbonic anhydrase-tetrazine conjugate can be used to target tumor cells. Once bound to the enzyme, the tetrazine moiety reacts with TCO-modified imaging agents, enabling precise imaging of the tumor.
