Description

SH-AuNPs-N3 combines the unique properties of gold nanoparticles with reactive thiol and azide functional groups. Thiol groups have a high affinity for gold surfaces, forming stable gold-thiol (Au-S) bonds. Thiol-functionalized molecules or ligands are often used to stabilize gold nanoparticles and prevent aggregation. N3 is a linear triatomic molecule consisting of three nitrogen atoms, making it highly reactive, especially for bioorthogonal conjugation. AuNPs are used as imaging agents due to their optical properties, which are enhanced by the presence of azide groups for functionalization with specific targeting ligands. This helps in tracking and labeling cells. Functionalized AuNPs are explored for applications in photothermal therapy, where AuNPs are heated by laser light to selectively destroy cancer cells.
