Description

STEALTH Liposomal Irinotecan HCl (2.0mg/mL), Lyophilized Powder consists of a liposomal vesicle made up of phospholipids (often phosphatidylcholine), cholesterol, and PEGylated lipids. The primary application of STEALTH Liposomal Irinotecan HCl is in the treatment of various cancers, particularly those that are resistant to conventional chemotherapy. STEALTH Liposomal Irinotecan is commonly used in the treatment of metastatic colorectal cancer, especially in combination with other chemotherapeutic agents (e.g., fluorouracil and leucovorin). The liposomal formulation improves the bioavailability and reduces the toxicity associated with irinotecan when delivered in free form. In addition, the unique properties of STEALTH liposomes, especially their ability to exploit the EPR effect, make them suitable for delivering drugs to solid tumors. The drug is passively accumulated in tumor tissues, where the liposomes can penetrate the leaky blood vessels that characterize tumor vasculature. This targeted delivery results in higher local drug concentrations at the tumor site and reduced systemic side effects, which is a significant advantage over free irinotecan.
