Description

STEALTH Liposomal Irinotecan HCl (2.0mg/mL, SOSA-Am), Lyophilized Powder is a formulation of the chemotherapy drug irinotecan encapsulated within STEALTH liposomes. The STEALTH liposomal system is a novel approach designed to improve the pharmacokinetics and therapeutic efficacy of drugs, particularly those with poor solubility or stability in the bloodstream. The encapsulation of irinotecan (a camptothecin analog) within liposomes enhances its drug delivery capabilities, allowing for more controlled and targeted release, thereby improving the therapeutic window and reducing systemic side effects. Irinotecan is an anticancer agent used primarily in the treatment of various cancers, including colorectal cancer, small cell lung cancer, and ovarian cancer. It is a camptothecin derivative that exerts its anticancer effects by inhibiting topoisomerase I, an enzyme critical for DNA replication and repair. The drug acts by stabilizing the enzyme-DNA complex, which prevents DNA re-ligation after strand cutting, ultimately leading to DNA damage and cell death.
