Tetrabutylammonium azide (N,N,N-Tributyl-1-butanaminium azide) is a quaternary ammonium salt where the tetrabutylammonium cation is paired with an azide anion. TBAA is often used to introduce azide groups into organic molecules. This functionalization is a key step in synthesizing more complex molecules, allowing for subsequent reactions such as Staudinger ligation, photo-crosslinking, or further click reactions. TBAA can also be used to synthesize azide-containing polymers. These polymers can be further functionalized via click chemistry, crosslinking, or grafting, enabling the creation of advanced materials with tailored properties, such as increased mechanical strength, thermal stability, or specific chemical reactivity.
