Thiol-PEG-NHS (HS-PEG-NHS, SH-PEG-NHS) is a versatile compound with applications in bioconjugation, surface modification, and drug delivery. Thiol groups are highly reactive and capable of forming strong covalent bonds with other thiol groups, certain metals, and other functional groups. The NHS ester group is highly reactive and commonly used in bioconjugation reactions. It reacts with primary amines (NH2) to form stable amide bonds. This reaction is utilized to link molecules or biomolecules to surfaces or other molecules. PEGylation enhances water solubility, biocompatibility, and stability. It also reduces nonspecific interactions and immune responses.
