Tz-68Ga (68Ga-labeled Tetrazine) refers to a compound in which a tetrazine moiety is labeled with the radioisotope Gallium-68 (^68Ga). Gallium-68 is a positron-emitting radioisotope used in positron emission tomography (PET) imaging, a nuclear medicine technique that allows for non-invasive imaging of biological processes at the molecular level. Tz-68Ga can be used in theranostics, which combines therapeutic and diagnostic capabilities into a single platform. For instance, a tetrazine-modified therapeutic agent could be tracked in the body using Tz-68Ga, providing real-time feedback on the distribution and effectiveness of the treatment. This approach enables personalized medicine by allowing for adjustments in therapy based on imaging results. In a pre-targeted imaging approach, a non-radioactive agent (such as a TCO-modified antibody) is first administered to bind a specific target. After sufficient accumulation and clearance from non-targeted areas, Tz-68Ga is injected, quickly reacting with the pre-targeted agent. This approach minimizes radiation exposure to non-target tissues and enhances imaging contrast.
