β-alkynyl-fluorosulfonylalkanes (BAFSAs) are a class of organic compounds featuring a β-alkynyl group and a fluorosulfonyl group. The β-alkynyl group refers to an alkyne functional group (-C≡C-) attached to the β-position relative to another functional group or substituent on the alkane chain. In general, the β position is the second carbon from the functional group or substituent of interest. The fluorosulfonyl group (-SO2F) consists of a sulfonyl group (-SO2-) bonded to a fluorine atom. This functional group is highly reactive, particularly as an electrophile. β-Alkynyl-fluorosulfonylalkanes can be used as fluorinating agents. The fluorosulfonyl group can transfer fluorine to other molecules, facilitating the formation of carbon-fluorine bonds. Besides, compounds with both β-alkynyl and fluorosulfonyl groups can be valuable in pharmaceutical chemistry. The alkyne group can be involved in click chemistry for conjugating drugs, while the fluorosulfonyl group can enhance the pharmacokinetic properties of drug candidates.
